Believe in chiropractic?

For the longest time, Dr. Burns didn’t believe in chiropractic. Being raised on Western medicine, it took quite a bit of hard (and empirical) data to convince her of the legitimacy and efficiency of the profession….

Chiropractic Journey Begins

Originally from Saco, Maine, Dr. Burns adopted New Hampshire after she was laid off as a machinist from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and decided to put herself through Massage Therapy school in Hudson, NH. After many years of practicing massage and bodywork in the Nashua and Seacoast regions, she decided that she needed additional knowledge to be able to treat her more challenging patients, and was looking for a non-invasive path to health.

Dr. Burns graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She received her doctorate degree at New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, NY in 2005. She is currently licensed in New Hampshire, Maine and New York as a Chiropractor, and also holds a license as a Massage Therapist in Maine.

Bodywork and Chiropractic

“The combination of bodywork and chiropractic makes a great marriage of techniques and philosophies,” she believes. “The holistic approach to both incorporates the entire lifestyle of the patient: their diet, rest patterns, stress levels, activity, emotional make-up, and environmental factors, including ergonomics, posture and job stresses. I am able to utilize my skills in massage therapy and chiropractic to help ease my patients, and to give them satisfaction in their own healing. This is a perfect vehicle for those who want gentle, natural care, and for those who are hesitant about more forceful techniques.”

It is very important to her that she stay healthy (so that she can help her patients better!), and so has adopted a healthier way of managing her lifestyle. Moderate exercise, eating more whole foods with less fat and sugar, portioning foods and reading nutrition labels have made a significant impact on her health management.

Dr. Burns and her husband, Tim, who is a professional chef, live in Nashua with an elderly Golden Retriever and two cats.
